Aramid Powder

Quality characteristics

Aramid refers to a family of aromatic polyamide polymers known for exceptional performance characteristics. These High Performance fibres provide excellent abrasion and wear resistance, inherent flame retardancy, and reliable anti-slip properties. Aramid has no melting point and begins to decompose only at approximately 525°C.

Chopped aramid Fiber also play an important role as a reinforcement within plastic compounds due to its high strength, fatigue resistance, and exceptional abrasion and wear performance.

For coating and flooring applications, Aramid Powder is an effective additive to enhance surface friction, improve wear resistance, and deliver durable anti-slip performance. It is easy to process and can be readily pigmented to achieve the desired color.

Characteristics

  • Excellent abrasion and wear resistance
  • Inherent flame retardancy
  • High friction and anti-slip performance
  • Good resistance to organic solvents
  • Electrically non-conductive
  • No melting point; decomposition begins above ~500°C
  • Temperature resistance: continuous up to 250°C; short-term up to 500°C
  • Density: 1.44 g/cm³
  • Bulk density (powder): 300–500 kg/m³
  • Tensile strength 5–8 times higher than steel (weight basis)
  • Excellent thermal insulation with minimal heat absorption
  • Low elongation (typically ~3.3% at break)

Applications

Aramid Powder is applied in coatings for the following purposes:

  • Tank roofs
  • (Industrial) floors and workshops
  • Ship decks (pleasure/yachting, commercial/industrial and naval)
  • Offshore platforms
  • Bridges, roads, car parks and garages
  • Gyms, saunas, and swimming pools
  • Platforms, scaffolding, stairs, galleries, balconies, and roofs
  • Any other coating applications where (amongst others) pigment/colour adaptation, friction control, cold temperatures and heat accumulation play an important role
